About Partners In Health
Partners In Health helps poor countries build and sustain public health systems. Founded in 1987 by Ophelia Dahl, Dr. Paul Farmer, Dr. Jim Kim, and friends, it has grown from a tiny organization in Haiti to a global nonprofit with 18,000 mostly local staff serving some of the most marginalized communities in 10 countries.
Partners In Health is driven by their mission to provide a preferential option for the poor in health care. By establishing long-term relationships with sister organizations based in settings of poverty, Partners In Health strives to achieve two overarching goals: to bring the benefits of modern medical science to those most in need of them and to serve as an antidote to despair.
Last year, Partners In Health provided:
- 1.6 million outpatient visits in its clinics
- 1 million women’s health checkups around the world
- Over 800,000 home visits conducted by community health workers
