Overcoming Brexit challenges to coordinate time-sensitive shipments
To ensure on-time release and delivery of an autologous CAR-T Cell treatment therapy to an investigator site in Spain.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the start of Brexit, when the U.K. left the European Union (EU), many transport options were highly impacted. These circumstances caused the shipment to be offloaded multiple times by the airline. Based on the criticality of this shipment, an alternative transport solution was required.
To mitigate further delay, the shipment was transported to one of Marken’s strategically positioned GMP depot facilities. The shipment arrived at our depot two days later than originally scheduled, causing the depot and QP to experience extreme time constraints to perform a same-day dispatch.
Upon arrival of the product at our depot, our dedicated Marken experts prioritized the shipment and performed the full reception process in under two hours. The assigned Marken QP then managed to release the product that day at 6:51 pm. Using Marken’s just-in-time inventory management tool, Solo, the time-sensitive drug product was dispatched to the third-party courier.
Within a 7-hour timeframe, Marken performed the reception and QP release, compared to usual process of 40 hours between reception and dispatch. Using our flexible and personalized supply chain solutions with extraordinary cycle times, we were able to accommodate this urgent request.
The final delivery of the autologous CAR-T drug product was transported to the site in Spain on-time and within specifications. This delivery was a success, and the sick patient received their treatment without any delay or complications.
