New Rules For Shipping To Egypt : What You Need To Know

AUTHOR: Amy Chesworth – Regulatory Compliance Co-Ordinator, EMEA
DATE: November 2025

Starting January 1, 2026, the Egyptian Customs Authority is introducing new rules for all shipments going to Egypt. These changes apply to every type of shipment, no matter the industry.

What’s Changing?
All exporters must now comply with Egypt’s Advance Cargo Information Declaration (ACID) system. This requires shipment data and key documentation to be submitted electronically before goods depart the origin country.

To meet these requirements, exporters must use the CargoX platform to upload draft shipping documents for each shipment. The required drafts include:

  • Draft Commercial Invoice
  • Draft Packing List
  • Draft Air Waybill (AWB) or Bill of Lading (BOL)

Detailed guidance on required formats and documentation can be found here: CargoX Required Documents & Formats.

CargoX will electronically transmit these documents to the importer’s NAFEZA account in Egypt for review and approval by the importer.

Exporters can register at www.cargox.io to begin the submission process.

What Happens Next?
Once the importer verifies and approves the documentation through NAFEZA, Egyptian Customs will issue a unique ACID number (a 19-digit code). This number must appear on the following final shipping documents:

This ACID number must appear on:

  • The final invoice
  • The final packing list
  • The final AWB or Bill of Lading
Important: Shipments without a valid ACID number will be rejected and cannot clear customs.   If the importer does not have an active NAFEZA account, there is no system endpoint to approve the documents, and therefore: No ACID number can be generated Shipment cannot proceed legally into Egypt

Responsibilities
These digital requirements improve transparency, traceability, and customs efficiency.

It is important to note that Marken is not responsible for completing this process. Compliance with the new requirements rests with:

  • The exporter in the origin country (CargoX registration and document submission)
  • The importer in Egypt (NAFEZA registration and ACID approval)

Conclusion
To prevent shipment delays or customs rejections, exporters and importers should prepare for these new requirements well in advance of January 2026. Completing registration on CargoX will help ensure a seamless transition to Egypt’s updated customs procedures. And we do recommend that all shipments to Egypt begin planning and implementing these steps now to safeguard uninterrupted movements.
